Belize assumes leadership of SICA´s Executive Committee (July-December 2014)

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, June 25, 2014. During the ordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the Central American Integration System (SICA), the Dominican vice Foreign Minister, César Dargam, executed the transfer of the Presidency Pro Tempore (PPT) of this permanent body of the regional organization to Belize to exercise during the next semester.

In this context, the Dominican Republic provided a report on the activities of the Committee and its ad hoc working groups, carried out from January to June this year. Also, the vice foreign ministers of SICA countries that make up this body analyzed the points to be discussed at the XLIII Ordinary Meeting of Heads of State and Government of SICA to be held later this week also in Punta Cana.

At the event the vice foreign ministers also became acquainted with initiatives in such matters as education, tourism, and institutional strengthening for future implementation. Similarly, they opened a space for the presentation of some agencies of the system, such as the Organization of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector of the Central American Isthmus (OSPECA); as well as some Dominican agencies such as The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (lNDOTEL), the Ballistic Laboratory and Biometrics, and the National Council on Aging Individuals (CONAPE); regionally, the Network of Organizations of people with Disabilities in Central America and the Caribbean were present (REDODICEC).

The Executive Committee of SICA (EC-SICA) corresponds through the General Secretariat, as part of their duties to ensure the efficient execution of the decisions taken at meetings of leaders; to ensure that the provisions of the Protocol of Tegucigalpa and its supplementary instruments or derived acts are met; establish sectoral policies and present, through its President to the Council of Foreign Ministers, the proposals that are necessary in accordance with the general guidelines issued directly or indirectly from the presidential summits.
