EEP Overview

The Energy and Environment Partnership with Central America (EEP) promoted renewable energies and energy efficiency in the 8 countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA), since its launch in the United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg 2002 (Rio+10), until finishing the operations on November 2014.

The contribution to sustainable development, poverty alleviation and climate change mitigation were the main objectives of the Partnership; mainly through the support provided with seed money granted to 279 execution projects, which promoted the different renewable energy technologies; as well as the organization of 22 regional forums, that became the main events in the renewable energy sector in Central America; and the participation and support to other activities related to renewables issues.

All these achievements were possible thanks to the cooperation of theMinistry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, theAustrian Development Cooperationand theEuropean Union; that provided since 2003 to 2014 more than € 19 million in total.
