DE LANZAMIENTO DEL CONCURSO DEL LOGO DE LA INICIATIVA DE ACCION EN EQUIPOS DE COMPUTADORA (PACE)
Invitamos a diseñadores gráficos y al público en general de Latinoamérica y el Caribe, así como a amigos y amigas de otras regiones del mundo, a participar en esta transmisión por Internet disponible a partir de las 8:30 am hora de Centroamérica (9:30 am hora de Washington DC) del 18 de Febrero de 2011, y a apoyar la gestión ambientalmente responsable de equipos de computadora usados y/o al final de su vida útil, evitando prácticas que dañan a la salud y el medio ambiente. El Webcast será continuado por un chat de hasta media hora aclarando dudas sobre el concurso del logo de PACE. Al final de esta sección encontrará información más detallada sobre el concurso.
PACE es una asociación público-privada a nivel global, auspiciada por el Convenio de Basilea, la cual está finalizando la preparación de Directrices Técnicas para el almacenamiento, reparación y reacondicionamiento, aprovechamiento y reciclaje de equipos de computadora usados y al final de su vida útil. Debido a lo anterior, a partir de este año las áreas prioritarias en PACE serán la sensibilización y capacitación, así como el apoyo a la ejecución de proyectos piloto en países en vías de desarrollo.
El Grupo de Proyecto 4.1 de PACE que se enfoca en la sensibilización y capacitación de esta iniciativa, estableció como una de sus prioridades lograr un mayor nivel de difusión a través de un concurso que colabore con el Grupo de Trabajo de PACE en la selección de su logo oficial. Aprovechando la circunstancia que el Director del Centro Regional del Convenio de Basilea para Centroamérica y México (CRCB-CAM) es Co-Presidente del Grupo de Proyecto 4.1, el Grupo de Trabajo de PACE ha autorizado al CRCB-CAM a organizar el concurso del logo de PACE en América Latina y el Caribe con el apoyo de las siguientes organizaciones:
- Comité Ad-Hoc de Comunicación con miembros de las Secretarías de los Convenios de Basilea y Estocolmo y de la Secretaría Conjunta de los Convenios de Basilea, Estocolmo y Rótterdam.
- Safe Planet programa que apoya a los Convenios de Basilea, Estocolmo y Rótterdam
- CCAD y SG-SICA
- Red de Centros Regionales de los Convenios de Basilea y Estocolmo
- Oficinas regionales del Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente (PNUMA) y de la FAO
El Webcast bilingüe incluirá a los siguientes participantes que expondrán sus perspectivas sobre el desafío del uso ambientalmente responsable de computadoras usadas y/o al final de su vida útil, sobre la respuesta del Convenio de Basilea a través de PACE, así como información sobre el concurso de su logo:

BILINGUAL WEBCAST (ENGLISH-SPANISH) OF THE LAUNCHING OF THE LOGO CONTEST FOR THE PARTNERSHIP ACTION FOR COMPUTER EQUIPMENT (PACE)
We invite graphic designers and the general public in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as friends from other regions of the world to participate in the web transmission available from 8:30 am Central American time (9:30 Washington DC time) on February 18, 2011, and to support the sound management of used and/or at the end of life computer equipment, avoiding practices that harm the health and the environment. Following the Webcast, there will be a 30 minute chat to clarify questions regarding PACE´s logo contest. PACE is a public-private partnership that works at a global level, sponsored by the Basel Convention which is in the process of finalizing the preparation of its technical guidelines for the storage, repair, refurbishing, recovery, and recycling of used and end of life computer equipment. As a result, starting this year, PACE´s priorities will be to raise awareness and to train, as well as to support the execution of pilot projects in developing countries.
PACE´s Working Group 4.1 which focuses in awareness raising and training, established as one of its priorities to achieve a higher level of broadcasting through a contest that collaborates with PACE´s Working Group in the selection of its official logo.Taking advantage of the fact that the Director of the Regional Center of the Basel Convention for Central America and Mexico (BCRC-CAM) is Co-Chair of Project Group 4.1, PACE´s Working Group has authorized BCRC-CAM to organize the PACE logo contest in Latin America and the Caribbean with the support of the following organizations
- Ad-Hoc Communication Committee with members of the Secretariats of the Basel and Stockholm Conventions and the Joint Secretariat of the Basel, Stockholm and Rotterdam.
- Safe Planet program which supports the Basel, Stockholm, and Rotterdam Convetions
- CCAD and SG-SICA
- Network of Basel and Stockholm Convention Regional Centers
- Regional Offices of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and FAO
The bilingual Webcast will include the following participants who will share their perspectives on the challenge of environmentally responsible use of used and / or end of life computer equipment, regarding the Basel Convention´s response through PACE, as well as information about the contest of its logo:
