20 March 2010 - Alianza en Energía y Ambiente con Centroamérica
Area: Medio Ambiente

The renewable energy projects represent a clear contribution to the mitigation of the world climate change; because its use permit to substitute the consumption of fossil fuels, using the natural resources and the residues of other productive processes in a friendly way with the environment. Also, these types of energies represent a strategic importance in the developing countries, generating jobs, reducing imports of petroleum, and it’s well known that they can contribute to reduce poverty in remote and rural communities, providing energy services.
To contribute to the promotion of the benefits of the renewable energies, the General Secretariat of the Central American System for the Integration (SG-SICA) and the Central American Commission of Environment and Development (CCAD), through the Energy and Environment Partnership with Central America (EEP), jointly with the National Authority of the Environment (ANAM) and the Secretariat of Energy of Panama, organized the XV EEP Regional Forum: "Contribution of the Renewable Energies in Central America to the Mitigation of the Climate Change", held at Hotel El Panama in Panama City, on March 17th to 19th, 2010. The objective of this event was to disseminate the achievements on climate change mitigation, especially those related to the promotion of renewable energies, resulting from the United Nations Conferences of the Parts on Climate Change (COP-15), organized in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 2009.
This event included the participation of representatives of the public sector related to the renewables area, as well as Finnish and Austrian companies that offered presentations of their products and technologies applied to renewable energies, for instance solar systems, wind, and hydroelectric energy. Also, successful businessmen of the Central American countries presented their achievements and advances in projects related to renewable energies, and financial institutions of the region presented the benefits that are being offered for these projects. In the act of inauguration of the event we had the participation of: the General Deputy Administrator of the National Authority of the Environment, Mrs. Melanie Castillo; the Secretary of Energy, Ing. Juan Manuel Urriola; the Director Executive of SG-SICA, Lic.
